Meet the Founder Addressing "Food Deserts" for Low Income Communities

In August, we had our New Earth Demo Day, bringing together pitches from three incredible founders. Today, we go more in-depth with one of them - one of our guy founders Brian Ovalles from The Orange Market (TOM) - who is working hard to bring healthy food into low-income communities - places often known as “food deserts” because of the lack of healthy food and the prevalence of chronic disease.

See my interview with Brian below to learn about The Orange Market particularly..

  • why loneliness, cultural norms, and accessibility affect healthy food choices

  • a prototype of his app (a holistic “DoorDash” that empowers all community stakeholders)

  • how he thinks we can heal food systems at scale

When you’re done, you can view his whole pitch here.

TOM is transformative for low income communities because it a. creates greater access to healthy food, b. empowers local vendors with tools to stay afloat during the pandemic, and c. even has easy-to-use filters for dietary restrictions like Keto, vegan, etc, as more and more people move into a healthier food and lifestyle paradigm.
